Lesson Task
Imagine you are a convict bound for Botany Bay. You have been on the ship for 200 days and there is still 52 more days remaining. Captain Arthur Phillip has assigned you to the crows nest. You are part of his navigation team and must keep a look out for pirates and poor weather etc..
While sitting up in the crows nest you ponder about how dreadful your journey has been. 42 people have died on this ship, mainly from starvation and scurvy. There is a lack of proper fresh fruit and vegetables. Your meals consist of boiled oats and rice. There is scarcely any water left to drink and your constantly feeling sea sick. You have decided to write home to your family in England explaining your situation.
Your task is to design a postcard or letter explaining to your family the conditions on the first fleet.
1. Plan your letter first - brainstorm what you will include.
2. draft and edit - 3 before me and use your dictionary.
3. Teacher check
4. Publish onto a google doc and 'turn in' on google classroom. Titled 'Bound for Botany Bay'
