What is Poetry?
LEARNING EXPERIENCES:
- Write a list of words that come to mind or ideas. these idea will formulate our 'What is poetry?' Wall poster. As we read various poems you will write the name of the author on this poster if you have enjoyed listen to his/her poems. Or the titles of Poems that you know or enjoy!
- Explain what a free verse poem is and write a free verse poem while listening to song.
- Write a free verse poem using this starter.
' It makes me happy when..."
'It makes me furious when'...
'One day I'm going to'...
'All of a sudden in the main street of Kiama..'
- Cut out a poem into lines and stanzas. Students put the poem back together checking with the original.
- Art: Students draw and colour in an image to represnt a poem's meaning read to them. E.g. 'The Walrus and the Carpenter' by Lewis Carroll &'Night Mail' by WH Auden or Robert Frost.
- Jointly construct a variety of poems.
- 'Blackout poetry'
- Use the images below to construct a poem - Brainstorm a list of feelings and thoughts related to the image. E.g OBWE facebook site or Pobble365/ Aboriginal paintings
